How Do Solar Power Banks Work?

A solar power bank is a portable device equipped with solar panels that convert sunlight into electrical energy through the photovoltaic effect. When sunlight hits the semiconductor material (typically silicon) in the solar panel, it excites electrons and generates an electric current. This current is then regulated by a charging controller to safely charge the internal battery, usually lithium-ion or lithium-polymer, which stores the energy for later use. Users can then charge their mobile devices through USB ports or even wireless charging technology integrated into some models.1
